Buggin – the E.T. | Explore the Universe OST

Track 8 of the Explore the Universe 2175 Album.

I wrote this Bass heavy house track while I was coding pretty hard to create Parker’s Physics. I often write music as I write code, kinda taking breaks from one modality to switch over to the other. Going through software bugs and doing a bunch of back-end engineering was what created the whole deep and dark part of the vibe.

The Music Video Process

The Buggin music video is an experiment in visual storytelling and procedural aesthetics. I use a tool called Magic Visual and align the auditory spectrum with colors and animations.

The music video came out good! For the next release, I want to push the visuals much further by introducing multiple cinematic scenes and more narrative-driven sequences. I’m planning to spend more time experimenting with TouchDesigner and real-time visual systems to create reactive sci-fi environments and cool simulation-based visuals. I’ve just been busy releasing and developing the satellite operator simulation Parker’s Physics.

That direction lines up closely with the visual identity behind Parker’s Physics and Explore the Universe 2175.

This track came together as a bass sound design and melody first, I wrote the drums, then added the second bass (it reminds me of a katana sling combo for some reason) and finally the melody. I wrote the melody at the end last, first time that has ever happened.

I think the lead is dope too. Check it out if you have a chance. <3

You can listen on soundcloud now. I’ll upload to Spotify when the game comes out.

Creative Flow Between Music and Software

One thing I’ve noticed while building software is that music and engineering are surprisingly connected.

Writing code and producing music both involve rhythm, structure, tension, timing, and iteration. Some of the best ideas for Parker’s Physics actually happened while working on music.

That constant switching between technical systems and creative systems has become a major part of my workflow.
